A pebble necklace

How to make a pebble necklace out of nothing but a small piece of fabric and some stones.

This bold and original necklace is so easy to make out of small pebbles you have found on the beach, during a hike or just picked up from your garden!

Ce collier audacieux et original est très facile à faire avec des cailloux que vous auriez trouvés sur la plage, lors d’une randonnée, ou simplement dans votre jardin !

Step 1: Cut a strip of fabric

Étape 1 : Couper une bande de tissu

Cut a strip of fabric which you will use to make the necklace. I used a 100 x 13 cm strip for my necklace of 9 pebbles of 2-3cm diameter.

Couper une bande de tissu pour votre collier. Pour mon collier de 9 cailloux de 2-3cm de diametre, j’ai utilisé une bande de 110cm par 13cm.

Step 2: Fold the stip of fabric in half lengthwise and pin it

Étape 2 : Plier la bande de tissu en deux en longeur et l’épingler

Fold the strip of fabric in half lengthwise with the pattern side of the fabric on the inside. Pin the fabric to prepare to sew it together. Once sewn, this fabric will make a tube into which we will put the pebbles. The two ends of the necklace will taper off into a point, so at this stage I drew the diagonal line at each end to mark where I would sew.

Plier la bande de tissu en longueur avec la côté motifs à l’intérieur. Épingler le tissue pour préparer à le coudre. On coud le tissu pour créer un tube dans lequel on va insérer les cailloux. Les deux extrémités du collier vont finir en pointe, donc j’ai dessiné la courbe de là où je vais coudre.

Step 3: Sew the fabric into a tube

Étape 3 : Coudre le tissu en tube

Sew the fabric from one end of the necklace up until just before the line starts to taper off at the other end of the necklace.

Coudre le tissu d’une extrémité jusqu’au le début de l’effilement à l’autre bout du collier.

Step 4: Turn the tube of fabric inside out

Étape 4 : Retourner le tube de tissu

Turn the tube of fabric inside out so the right side of the fabric is on the outside.

Retourner le tube de tissu pour que l’intérieur devienne l’extérieur.

Step 5: Wrap the embroidery thread around the pebbles

Étape 5 : Enrouler du fil à broder autour des cailloux

Put the pebbles into the tube of fabric and wrap the embroidery thread around the fabric each side of the pebbles to keep them in place. Secure each thread with a few stitches so they don’t unravel. Start in the middle to to make sure the pebbles are corectly centered – but don’t forget to put all of the pebbles into the tube first! Do the same for all the pebbles.

Insérer les cailloux dans le tube de tissu et enrouler du fil à broder autour du tissu des deux cotés des cailloux. Fixer chaque fil avec quelques points pour le tenir en place. Commencer au milieu pour être certain de bien centrer votre collier – mais ne pas oublier d’insérer bien tous les cailloux d’abord ! Continuer pour tous les cailloux du collier.

Step 6: Sew up the other end of the tube of fabric

Étape 6 : Fermer l’autre bout du tube de tissu

Sew up the other end of the necklace to finish it. Sew the edges together together as invisibly as possible.

Coudre l’autre bout du collier pour le fermer. Faire des points d’une manière la moins visible que possible.

That’s it, your necklace is finished. Simply knot the ends together to wear it.

C’est tout, votre collier est fini ! Nouer les deux bouts ensemble pour le mettre.
