Rainbow spray painted fan

This project is to upgrade an old electric fan into a new, beautiful, rainbow spray painted fan. Simply spray each of the blades of the fan a different primary colour and when you turn the fan on, you will see a lovely rainbow effect.

Ce projet est pour renouveler un vieux ventilateur, pour faire un beau ventilateur arc en ciel avec de la peinture en spray. Il faut simplement peindre les pales du ventilateur avec des couleurs primaires , et quand vous allumez le ventilateur vous voyez un joli arc en ciel.

I was given these spray paints as part of a challenge with Oui are makers and Edding France to create a decorative item for the home.

J’ai reçu ces peintures en spray pour un concours avec Oui are Makers et Edding France pour créer un objet de déco pour la maison.

I had this old fan lying lying about, which we still use, but it is really ugly and yellowed and dirty. In just an hour or so, it was looking even better than when it was brand new! I love this project because it is so simple and easy to do, and turns such an everyday object into something really magical.

Nous avons ce ventilateur depuis très longtemps, et il fonction toujours bien, mais il a beaucoup vieilli, avec des taches et des parties jaunes. En quelques heures, il était encore plus jolie que le jour qu’on l’a acheté ! J’adore ce projet, parce que c’est vraiment super simple à faire, et il transforme un objet du quotidien comme de la magique.

The first thing you need to do is clean the fan. Take the fan apart as much as possible. I took off the blades by unscrewing the front cap, and cleaned the whole thing thoroughly.

La première chose qu’il faut faire est de nettoyer le ventilateur. Démontez le ventilateur le plus possible. J’ai dévissé le bouchon d’avant pour enlever les pales, et j’ai bien nettoyé chaque partie du ventilateur.

As well as painting the blades rainbow colours, I decided to paint the rest of the fan a creamy white. This will make the whole thing look clean and bright and new. Before doing this, cover any areas of the fan you don’t want to paint with masking tape.

En plus de peindre les pales en couleurs primaires, j’ai décidé de peindre le reste du ventilateur en blanc crème pour le rendre plus propre et comme neuf. Avant de le faire, j’ai couvert les parties que je ne voulais pas peindre avec du ruban adhésif.

Before spraying, make sure you havean appropriate place to do so. Make sure you are somewhere well ventilated and where you can’t make too much mess. If you have a place to do so outside, that is perfect, but as I didn’t have this option, I built this spray station out of recycled cardboard boxes and newspaper.

Avant de peindre avec des peintures en spray, il faut trouver un bon endroit pour le faire. Trouver un lieu bien ventilé, et protégé. Faites-le dehors si possible, mais je ne pouvais pas, donc j’ai créé ce coin protégé avec des cartons et journaux recyclés.

I sprayed all the areas of plastic, on the fan base and the blades, with a base coat of Eddings plastic primer which prevents any softening of the plastic, smooths out any unevenness and helps with the adhesion of the following coat of spray paint.

J’ai peint toutes les parties plastique du ventilateur avec l’apprêt pour plastique de Edding, qui protège le plastique contre le ramollissement, aide a aplanir les irrégularités, et offre une bonne adhérence à votre peinture.

I then sprayed the whole of the base of the fan cream white. I gave it several light coats to make sure it was well covered.

Ensuite, j’ai peint la base du ventilateur en blanc crème. J’ai fait plusieurs couches légers pour le être certain de bien le couvrir.

I then covered two of the three blades and spray painted the third blade with Eddings acrylic Colour Paint. The colours I used were pastel yellow, coral and petrol. Primary colours work best to create a rainbow: red, yellow and blue. But you could try using any other mixture of colours if you wanted to follow a particular colour scheme. For example, you could try using three different shades of blue.

J’ai couvert deux des trois pales et peint le troisième avec de la peinture acrylique Edding. Les couleurs que j’ai utilisé étaient jaune pastel, corail et pétrole. Les couleurs primaires sont le mieux pour faire un arc en ciel : rouge, jaune et bleu. Par contre vous pourrais également essayer une autre mélange de couleurs pour aller avec votre déco. Par exemple, vous pourrais essayer avec trois teints de bleu différents.

I started out using newspaper to cover the other blades as I sprayed the other, but in the end I found a plastic bag worked best for this. Simply tie or tape one bag around each of the blades you want to cover while you spray the third.

J’ai commencé par couvrir les pales avec des journaux, mais après quelques tests j’ai trouvé que des sacs plastiques fonctionnent encore mieux. Emballer chaque pale tout simplement avec un sac plastique, avec un nœud pour le tenir en place. Emballez les deux autre pales pour peindre chaque couleur.

Once I had finished adding the colours, I gave everything a coat of varnish. I used the clear lacquer glossy spray to finish off the fan.

Quand les pales étaient bien colorés, j’ai ajouté une couche de vernis transparent Edding pour bien finir toutes les surfaces du ventilateur.

And that is all. My fan looks so much nicer now, just like new. And I love the rainbow effect when the fan is turned on!

Et c’est fini! Le ventilateur et beaucoup plus joli maintenant. J’adore l’effet arc en ciel quand je l’allume!
