These simple knitted slippers are so easy, even a complete beginner to knitting (like me) can make them!
After learning to knit at the beginning of this year, I was looking for simple projects to try with my new skill. I found this concept for simple knitted slippers with a felt sole absolutely perfect, as the knitting part is SUPER easy – even easier than knitting a scarf!

All you need to make these slippers:
- Wool and knitting needles to knit the sides of the slippers
- Felt to make the soles. You need at least two layers per slipper
- Scissors and a hole punch to cut and punch the felt soles
- Embroidery thread and needle to sew two parts together

Step 1: Knitting
As I said, this part is really very easy. Just knit 2 strips about 8-10 cm wide and as long as the outside of your foot. If you draw around your foot onto a piece of paper, and then measured the length of the line, that’s how long your knitting should be. I just knitted until one strip was long enough, then knitted the second with the same number of rows. You can use garter stitch, which is where you knit every stitch. See, I told you it was easy!

With my chunky yarn and 10mm needles, I needed only 8 stitches per row, and a total of 88 rows.

Step 2: Soles
You will need two felt soles for each slipper, with holes punched around the edge. You need half as many holes as the number of rows in each of your strips of knitting. I used an existing pair of slippers, which I drew around onto a piece of paper to get the right size. I then drew on where my holes would go (I needed 44) to make sure they were evenly spaced, before cutting out and punching holes in this paper to make a template.

I then used this template to make all four of the felt soles, using chalk to mark the outline and the location of the holes each time.

Step 3: Assembling your super simple knitted slippers
To attach your simple knitted slippers together, you need to sew the knitted part to the soles. Use two layers of felt sole per slipper, this gives extra thickness, and also allows you to tuck in all the ends of the thread between the two layers. Start at the part of the sole by the big toe, and work towards the heel of the slipper, sewing the long edge of the knitted strip to the soles.

Sew all the way around the slipper, then sew down the short edges at the front, crossing them over each other to finish the slipper. Sew the second slipper in the same way. Make sure to do exactly the same, but mirrored to make sure you have a matching pair of slippers!

And that is all you need to do to make your own simple knitted slippers I found mine to be a little on the floppy side. If this is the case, you can weave a ribbon around the top of the knitting to tie them up, as in the photo below.
